I've not really read up on the subject, but I like the "TRAVELLERS/GYPSIES ARE SCUM" lot so I can get self rightous about how they're a diverse group of society just like any other ethnic (for lack of a better word) group.

I'm pretty sure there are legal gypsy/travelers, who live on land they have permision and legal right to be on... that it's not 100% of them.
You're pretty much saying the equivilent, in regards to black people who break the law, that they're representitive of all black people.

Except their skin is white so it doesn't count.

Of course they are.
Definition is law is based on these.
(1) a long shared history, of which the group is conscious as distinguishing it from other groups, and the memory of which it keeps alive;
(2) a cultural tradition of its own, including family and social customs and manners, often but not necessarily associated with religious observance.
