in it's strictest sense, commonly interpreted as majority rule. One could argue that few (possibly no) modern 'democracies' are actually this, but they do contain some element of it and some (possibly specious) aspiration towards it.
The fact that "democracy" is often not particularly democratic is another annoyance.

I will say that the majority is, if not always, often and notably wrong about all kinds of stuff, and the only reason I can think of that they should be allowed to run a country is that the alternative is worse, which it is.
I just don't think we should get all self congratulatory about it, like it's some kind of panacea for all the world ills.
