I've been forced to defend Friends before
Because I really don't understand the hate. OK, some of the storylines in later seasons were a bit forced or stretched, but it had the best cast, the best writing and best jokes of almost any mainstream sitcome there has been outside of maybe Cheers and Frasier. Compare it to any of Mike & Molly, Two & A Half Men, King Of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, Spin City, How I Met Your Mother and whatever the fuck those travesties of things currently on E4 are and suddenly it looks like a work of genius.
