I am sick of London now I am a parent - don't want my daughter growing up in a large smelly dirty crime ridden expensive city.

We have friends that moved there about three years ago and they love Guernsey - and I can see why.

The sort of work I do I could easily do from there.

I can see the first part, absolutely, not ever wanting to raise children there is part of why I left London...
but you'd rather your daughter grew up in an inbred bigoted small-minded community that's 50% tax-evading criminals?

I understand the crime rate is low. It appears to have a slower pace of life, the schools are apparently good, the weather is better, it's clean and the sailing would be amazing.

I think if my wife and I are good parents we can bring my daughter up to identify bigotry and see it for what it is.

Biggest problem would be buying a house on the open market.

I thought the biggest problem was actually being allowed to move there
without a well-paid job or being "independently wealthy"? Don't you need permission from the local people to live there, or am I thinking of buying property?

You do need a certain level of wealth to move there unless you are a key worker eg Nurse.
Not sure how close we would come to the wealth requirements.

There are two sets of property on the island - open market which is for non locals and closed for those born and raised there. It's a way of protecting locals so they don't get priced out of the property market in the way they have been elsewhere.

Property is expensive - our friends paid £6m for 7 bedroom farmhouse with 8 acres. We wouldn't be spending anywhere that.

I'd say it's more an extra tool
to rachet up the level of division and simmering resentment between locals and non-locals even more, personally.

A man who is tired of London, is tired of life

or wants to live in a clean, pleasant place where one isn't anally raped on a daily basis
for every single cost of living?

Financial anal raping is better than an anal raping by six fingered locals

I popped down to the local shop on Saturday afternoon a couple of weeks ago. There was a bloke pissing in the street at 3pm. If my daughter had been older I could easily have had her with me and there is no way I want her to witness things like that.

Try living somewhere a little less shit

We live in Queens Park. Not exactly a slum area.

I was wondering yesterday as I walked my mates dog
Why is it so much worse for humans to piss in a bush than dogs?
(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 10:10, Reply)
Because we can use a toilet?

(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 10:11, Reply)
But chemically is human piss 'worse' than dog piss?

(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 10:13, Reply)
They both taste about the same if that helps.

(, Mon 17 Oct 2011, 10:22, Reply)
The bloke I mentioned wasn't pissing in to a bush. Cock out pissing in to the road.

Should we really villify this man
or should we embrace his zest for life by joining him in his open air urination?

Probably best to embrace once he's finished though.

You'll not avoid that in Guernsey
Every time I've been there St Peterport has been full of drunken crews being cunts, scuffling and pissing everywhere. Usually, I was one of them, but still.
