That means something slightly different in the UK.
What does Swinging it up mean in Melbourne?
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:35, 1 reply, 14 years ago)
Swing Dancing!
Swinging it up means that there will be lots of people, we'll change dance partners a lot, and dance until our feet are past aching.

I liked Monty's version better.

If I'm honest, from googling it, they sound about equally as fun.

(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:43, Reply)
Swing is fucking brilliant
Definitely a young person's game though
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:42, Reply)
I'm totally sucked in by it.
Every time I go out on the dance floor, I end up with this great big idiotic grin on my face and I feel so happy it's like I'm going to burst with it.

Someone else who gets it!
I'm like that with Ballroom. I love Swing but haven't the energy for a whole night of it
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:47, Reply)
Oh I have a whole four days straight of it at the end of the month and I'm so excited I could just about scream!
Tomorrow night will be awesome. And there's a 1920's style NYE party with a swing band playing so I'm going to that and OH MY GOD I've turned into one of those people who never shuts up about their interest.

I do apologise.
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:49, Reply)
How long have you been doing it?

(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:52, Reply)
Three months.
I absolutely love it. Going to that first dance class has to be one of the best things I've done ALL year.
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:57, Reply)
Cool. Good move.

(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 10:05, Reply)
I think you can get away with talking to me about dancing
We're going to a 50s swing night for NYE and I can't fucking wait for that
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:53, Reply)
Oh man.
Has everyone got plans for NYE already?
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:55, Reply)
Yup! : ))

NO WAY!!
Mind you, I went to the first Xmas party of the season last Thursday. the 3rd of November!! Bonkers.

Where are you going to ring in the Olympic year?
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:58, Reply)
A black person, a blue person, a yellow person, a red person and a green person
Do they have phones at the North Pole?

Blue person = cold

It wasn't very well thought out
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 10:08, Reply)
Yup!

(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:58, Reply)
50's swing is great,
I love that there are themed nights based around actual proper dancing styles and not just getting munted on booze.
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:59, Reply)
Agreed, unsurprisingly
Last one we went to was 20s, I had a fantastic time. My knowledge of Swing steps is pretty limited beyond the timings, but Ms Foxtrot and I just freestyled all night. So different from Ballroom but I love it.
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 10:01, Reply)
I would say mine is limited... but I can do all the basics and pretty much if I have a good Lead then I can follow most of the time.
Freestyling is fun! And as one of my teachers says "There are no wrong moves in swing, only new ones... And some bad ones".
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 10:04, Reply)
Excellent philosophy :-)
As long as you keep the knees flexed and grounded and are in time with the music you can do more or less anything.

I can lead very well in Ballroom but am less good at doing it spontaneously, it really helps if the music is awesome
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 10:10, Reply)
Strictly Come Munting.

I don't get this, sorry
and I don't want to think about that hideous mess and longer than absolutely necessary
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 10:11, Reply)
Watch out.
Arlene Phillips is here.
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:46, Reply)
Ugh, fuck off
You could at least have compared me to Craig
(, Thu 10 Nov 2011, 9:47, Reply)
Sorry mate.
Cheap shot is cheap shot.

If you'd said Dixon I'd have been forced to break out the duelling pistols
