Exactly this.The military actually looked into a handheld version after that film, believe it or not.
The conclusion was that the idea was laughable.

The reason the military didn't issue the XM214 to troopsis because the gun weighs 35kg, 1000 rounds of ammunition weighs 35kg and it reuires two truck batteries to provide power for the motor, which weigh almost as much.
Even Blaine would not have been able to carry the M134.
