Nah
Imagine you were an American guitarist and songwriter, like Hendrix, and wanted to die young and leave a good-looking corpse, like Hendrix, and you made a deal with the devil to this end. And then imagine you're Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon.

For every Joplin, there is a Kristen Pfaff. For every Bonham, a Spinal Tap drummer (or five).

What's a shannon hoon, blind melon, joplin, pristen plaff or bonham ?

(, Tue 15 Nov 2011, 12:01, Reply)
Allow me to educate you
Shannon Hoon - American rock star, died young of a drug overdose
Blind Melon - the shit band he was in
Joplin - Janis, American singer-songwriter, died young, was excellent
Kristen Pfaff - Hole drummer, died young, was shit, as are/were Hole
Bonham - John, Led Zeppelin drummer and (incredibly) the only member of that band's determination to take every drug America had to offer during the 1970s to cark it as a result. Choked to death on his own vomit, providing the material for an excellent Spinal Tap joke, as referenced by TGB above.

Hope this helps.

Why do you know this useless information?

Look who you're asking

... and wasn't it our own Jonathan Miller who said:
'London swing like a pendulum do'

Errr ... kinda.
It was an obscure quote from (I think) That Was The Week That Was ... hence the Cook cite ...

Ah I see...
Jonathan Miller makes sense now. Too obscure for me though...

I only know two:
Janis Joplin: greatest white female rock/blues vocalist ever
John Bonham: Led Zeppelin drummer, regarded by many as the best/iin top three all time greatest rock drummers

I like to think that the names I associated them with above proves that greatness is not necessarily exaggerated by an early death
Except in the case of Kurt Cobain
