Done in a nice sauce, say red wine, garlic and chilli, they are lovely.

Check this, right.
1 - Get a kettle on, get the oven on... get a big saucepan on the heat.
2 - 'cus I wanted to use my pestol'n'morta, I crushed up some garlic-salt (not too much), "dried mixed herbs" and some oil. Drizzled it over flat garlic bread.
3 - First kettle load is done, pour it into the large saucepan and get another kettle on. Put a lid on the sourcepan to get it boiling quicker.
4 - Put the flat pizza in the oven
5 - Second kettle load is done, pour it in with the first, make the water salty like the sea, pure in 100g of pasta (long type, like lingini or spegetti) and the bag of mussels that are in a sauce... in the boiling water, put the lid on (so the mussells are boiling in a bag)
6 - 5 minutes later, take everything out, plate up, serve.

The whole thing cost at _most_ £6, it's a georgous well balanced meal, and took no more than 10-15m to cook.

I think you might be thinking of a different animal, most of the time mussels never touch sand.
They're generally grown on ropes that hang down into the sea bed. Are you sure you're not thinking of scallops that have been dragged up from the ocean bed by a trawl?

that's a fairly interesting fact!
but no, I'm not thinking of scallops as they are delicious, mussels are ming

Ahhh, coolio.
I hated them growing up, my BFF would insist growing up that we went to an amazing mussells resturant called belgos (we were born within hours of each other). I never liked them at all, but then I tried them at Jamie Oliver's cafe from Mum's plate and liked them, I then made them again and they were nice.... so now I like them. But it's only been about 6 months that I like them, compared to years and years of hating them.

Everyone's tastes are different, but if it's been a few years since you've tried them, maybe try giving it another chance? They're so fucking cheap here too.
