However you feel about her policies (and my best mate, the only other boy there, detests her partial dismantling of social democracy), everyone thought Streep was brilliant as her and even the aforementioned collectivist came out of the cinema with personal admiration for her strength of belief, her rags to riches tale of ambition, her leadership style and sympathy for her as a lonely old lady.

That would include my mother, who was brought up in a state of absolute (yes ,not just relative) poverty in the 60's. She nearly died several times through out her childhood due to having no heating in her council house. She often starved and never got any Christmas presents and new clothes. She failed her 11+ and stared work at 14. They never had a TV, just a wireless+ small record player.
Yeah, she was fucking loaded!
When Thatcher came along, she brought a house, got a car, went on foreign holidays,worked hard, and never struggled again.
Similar for my dad, plus he was an immigrant who barely spoke any English.
