we once took
a broken sofa out of a house (broken when we moved in, landlord had said it was OK) but then ended up being sued by him. I take no chances, I've lost too many bonds in the past

I phoned up the landlord the other day.
I said I ain't lugging a desk and clothes rail 300 miles with me, he can keep them afterwards. He said as long as they're improvements it's fine.

ie he will keep them but deduct the cost of removing them from your deposit anyway
