 Social policy wise.
Social policy wise.I would encourage education in non academic subjects to be made available to every willing person. Trade skills, engineering, and physical labour are not a second class route to employment, they are valuable necessities. Not everyone needs anything more than a basic Academic grounding.
Once we've got a world class workforce with every possible ability richly represented, then maybe we will not need so much migration, and maybe we can see manufacturing and production return to the UK on the scale it was before its decline in the late 60's, but this time efficiently, properly and privately run for a profit without the old militant trade unionism. Japan and Germany show we can make good stuff and compete with China.

Right. Firstly a lot of german "quality" brands are re-badged Far Eastern stuffespecially in electronics. Secondly, how are you proposing we magic a "quality" UK brand out of thin air, exactly?
They have a reputation which allows them to charge more to cover the higher manufacturing costs of first world labour. They aren't somehow "better" at making things, it's all an elaborate ruse that relies on brand repuation above all else. That being the crucial factor that UK brands are somewhat lacking.
People will pay more for an Audi than a Seat. It's still the same fucking car built, more or less, by the same people with the same stuff.
