One made ball bearings and so was stopped from signing up.
The other was involved in the D Day landings and had to lay tracks for tanks over the bodies of all the people on the beaches... he didn't talk about it much.

Yeah doubt it was much fun.
But he was a yorkshire man so didn't seem to have any emotions about anything apart from "fat kids everywhere these days"
