I didn't find out they'd cancelled it until after I watched the first season finale. I hate getting all excitable over a second series and having that happen.

There was a good range of sub-plots, good characterisation etc. that blurb does make it seem pretty contrived but how he got the ability to do what he does is only mentioned off-handedly a couple of times in comparison to how often they mention it being a worrying compulsion.
