Whisky is only expensive because people are so pretentious about it.
There isn't actually any difference between different types of whisky, it's just another example of mass hysteria.

No there aren't
people just pretend because they don't want to look stupid. It's the same with wine, the only difference is that some are red, some are white and some are in between.

yes there are.
There are different types of sweetness, some are really smoky, some are toffee sweet, sine are butterscotch sweet, some are fruity some are savoury.

Loads of variety. Next time you come up north I'll make the effort to come and meet you if you lime and I will buy you three shots of different whiskies.

Rarity and pretentiousness has a lot to do with it.
My dad's into whisky, he has some worth over £1k a bottle, and even he says it tastes no better than stuff costing £60 or so, it's just artificially inflated by rarity and bullshit.

But bear in mind the delay between distillation and it being sold.
