They were too slow to get what shoppers want
You'd go in for a washing machine and they'd have 25 or so lined up. So you'd pick one, then they'd tell you you could have it delivered in 2 weeks. What use is that?
They have finally caught up and now offer order over the Net pickup in store, but it's too late.

It's 6000 people spread out over the whole country, rather than 2000 people at a factory/docks in a small town.
I doubt many of those stores have more than 60 people working for them.
And it's retail, turnover is high and fast for most people.
