This made me laugh.

Then I felt bad.

I really don't get how she didn't notice
but I guess if you're saving, then maybe you just assume it's there.

I still find it hard to believe that they can't do anything - the person that recieved it in error spent it, and I'm pretty sure that's still theft, from a criminal point of view. They might claim they can't pay it back, but surely "that or doing time for thefto f £25K" might convince them otherwise?

It's the sort of thing you'd hope to notice at least once a year.

I would feel bad, but to not notice for two years...

I can sympathise, but really you shouldn't make this sort of mistake more than once
why would you not check your savings account the day after to see if teh money has made it through, if it hadn't then call the bank and find out whats going on. You do have to take some responsibility with your own money.

Totally agree (oh god, not again)
I'm just not sure why they can't start criminal proceedings against the person that spent it. It's pretty clear in law, I think, that it's still theft.

Apparently, or at least according to the people who comment on these articles, it is actually fraud, not theft.
Because you're illegally downloading someone elses money.
