The Triumph Slant 4 was made way before the V8 for the Stag
The Stag V8 was two Slant 4s glued together. You, sir, are fucking wrong.

What you discovered by cursory googling was that Triumph didn't use the Slant 4 in any car before they made a V8 out of it, which is probably why you assumed the dates verified your idea. This was because they made it for Saab origianlly, for the 99 I think.

So, in conclusion, not only was the shitty V8 for the stag two 4s bolted together, it was 4s that were so shit Triumph nearly didn't use them at all.

you're welcome.

It was definitely worth revisiting this exciting debate.

Obviously you're right though, it's utterly tedious
although only marginally more so than most threads.

Yeah, I know. It's a badly designed engine.
Most of its problems come from BL being shit, though. Its biggest native problem is the iron block and alloy head issue. Though that's not endemic to the TV8. The Rover K had a similar issue only that one used a metal gasket. Stupid idea.

My original comment is really that if they're properly maintained they are perfectly reliable. You just have to know what you're doing.
