I came up with a wicked idea while getting a haircut today from some over heard conversation. I donno if its already done or not, and I couldn't hear them properly so I might be barking up the wrong tree.
There are two principles of this idea
- I grab a feed of a dozen or soo bets, more than likely sports ones, and anyone can vote on what they think would win. So it would say "Who do you think would win? Man U or Spurs" with two buttons*. Then lines-close, so to speak, about an hour before the event is decided, and an automatic bet is made. It would be calculated as to how much to bet on how sure the general-populous thinks. At won't display who thought what 'till the very end as to not perswade people one way or the other.
- The exact same thing, but anyone can get in on it. They get their percentage of the winnings, should the bet win.
My thinking is that it would be a social experment rather than a money making scheme, and if it's just me, i'd limit it so it would never bet more than I can accord to lose.
* or maybe a slider to see how curtain they are, and then do some maths, to see what I bet on.

Rather than something I'd want to put money on.
The reality is, the prices set by the bookies are designed to offer value to the punter and to entice them in to having a punt, but with odds that mean the bookie always win.

There was something similar done here: www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2120416/Twitter-predicts-stock-prices-accurately-investment-tactic-say-scientists.html
I think the only difference, on a social level, is that my idea needs a concous decision.
