IMO a combination of things is killing pubs
Culture change - back in the day a pub was where the working man went after work for a drink with his mates. My grandmother, for example, would never have been seen dead in a pub. People's working lives are different now, more shift work etc.
Supermarkets selling alcohol- should be stopped. Pubs and off licences only.
Greedy pubcos forcing landlords to sell more beer than is in the barrel, charging extortionate rents, etc.
SOFT DRINK prices - how the shuddering fuck does a dutyless pint of Coke made from tap water and concentrate cost nearly as much as a pint of beer? Way to encourage not drinking and driving, too.
Smoking ban - to some extent.

I love pubs, and beer, and it's sad to see some go.

Your grandmother wouldn't be seen dead in a pub because she used to strip in them
and didn't want to be recognised.

No one seems to mention that an awful lot of pubs are shit and full of cunts.

They're rarely 'full' of cunts these days.

This is exactly why our local shut
full of scumbags and druggies, but unfortunately they were the only people with the spare time, money and inclination to spend a lot of time in there.

Isn't the problem that 'scumbags and druggies' don't have the money to spend there.
If the landlord had kicked out all the scrotes and done something to make his pub more appealing to nicer people with money, it might not have closed.

Indeed.
They did try a bit (good food deals etc) but the place really needs a full refurb, which they didn't have the cash for.

Even Tesco?

I tried that double IPA because of the talk of it on here.
It gave me a massive hangover. Stupid 9% beer.

It's all Lokesy's fault.

You're supposed to savour it, not guzzle it.

(, Wed 13 Mar 2013, 10:08, Reply)
Especially Tesco
local offy should be able to stock anything there's a demand for. Plus there's a specialist beer shop in town.
(, Wed 13 Mar 2013, 9:57, Reply)
If Tesco didn't exist that beer would never have been made.

He he

Cobblers
It was made before, they just changed the name for some reason, the brewery calls it Hardcore IPA.
