I'm thinking of affecting a Hyacinth Bouquet approach and insisting my address is Warwickshire in future.
No one really likes these modern counties.

I still refer to Middlesex like it's a place that actually exists.
I think it was wiped off the map before I was even born.

Yeah where did it go and why?

(, Wed 17 Apr 2013, 15:52, Reply)

the small county became densely populated, leading to problems with its viability. It was subject to a significant loss of territory in 1889 and was abolished on 1 April 1965.

It was/is a postal district and not a county?

Coventry used to be a county in its own right, Hyacinth fans.

I know, it is exciting.
Apparently Henry VI granted Coventry the status of a county in 1451.
It remained a county until 1842.
I can gaz you more details, if you like.

The annoying part is that Warwickshire does still exist and, for administration purposes AND geographically, we are firmly in it.
But no, for some unknown reason we get lumped in with the Yam-Yams and ridiculed for THEIR accent.
It's not as if we don't have enough problems of our own to be ridiculed for.

There, there. Hyacinth the Yam-Yam.

(, Wed 17 Apr 2013, 16:01, Reply)

You should've got Monty to ask about that for you earlier today.
