While I think it's terrible that Amazon receive almost as much in government grants than they paid in tax
I still continue to buy things form them as they are the most convenient way for me to get lots of things I want and ultimately if the government thinks there is something wrong then they should change the tax laws to make it impossible for them to get around.

Amazon never make much profit anyway, they spend it all on cutting costs/expanding.
We'll never get much corporation tax off them.

I think their shareholders are doing alright
so there must be a profit for them to declare dividends.

They're doing alright in terms of shareprice.
but they don't pay dividends.

Dominant market possition could easily be turned into profit.
So they're investing assuming amazon will do that.

2012 worldwide loss of $39million.
2011 worldwide profit of $631m
2010 profit of $1.15bn
tiny margins compared to it's size.

That's what I don't get, the gubmint is saying GOOGLES U R EVIL and AMAYZIN U R NORTY but if these loopholes exist, close them
I mean surely the whole point of a capitalist system is to make as much money as you can without losing it or going to prison? Don't start whaaing because they've dodged your shitty tax laws, just make the shitty tax laws less shitty. If someone said to me 'hey man, here's a legal way to not pay any tax' of course I'd go for it.
BUT I DUNNO COS I DUNNO ABOUT LAWS INNIT

Theo has it precisely, folks.
If it's legal and you don't like it, make it illegal or shut up
(

They don't want to make it illegal because they'll lose all the buisnesses.
Amazon will throw away 4 billion turnover if they have to pay a hundred million extra a year, that's a fact.

It's teh same with Starbucks
They would shut down every single store in the UK without hesitation.
see also, any bank.

The real problem is they'll change the flow of money and tax liabilities quicker than the law can be changed.
Probably before HRMC can even send them a new bill.

So don't go on the bloody Guardian and start calling Google 'evil' then
It's just a PR stunt, 'look we are trying to make corporations pay tax'
While doing absolutely fuck all because having them in the country is better than not having them
GAH I HATE EVERYTHING

Are you a fan of Ted Nugent? His 'Double Live Gonzo' is up there with Montrose's debut in my 'really good American hard rock bands' chart.
