1. Outstanding natural beauty of all kinds from snowy mountains to lush nature reserves to swamps to deserts to beaches etc etc
2. Despite their reputation for being knobbers the Americans I've met have almost all been lovely, generous people
3. Like modern music in any form? They invented most of it so you can visit the places where it all started.
4. You can get lovely food (as well as shite)
5. Again despite their reputation as having no history, the relative modernity of the country means what they do have they make a real effort to preserve
6. On the coasts, particularly, they are easily as culturally sophisticated as Europeans

As a narrow minded young man I used to think Americans were dreadful people
Then I met some and they all turned out to be, as you say, lovely, generous people.

Same here, I'm something of a 'reformed smoker' in my enthusiasm for them and their beautiful country.
Even the more sinister aspects of their society seem to me to come from a naive self-belief in their own righteousness (much like this country in the Victorian age) rather than some inherent 'evil'. They genuinely believe in the 'American way' and for all that is of course cretinous, it's an honest belief. They really lack our cynicism, much like children, and it's actually quite endearing.

I do want to go some time
My mate did quite a tour for 3 weeks and loved everywhere he went. One of the lads in here is doing Route 66 next year in a Cadillac

Got a campervan for 9 days and a Mustang convertible for the rest of it.

My old man used to have a Mustang convertible in the mid 60s.
When he moved to the US he looked into getting another one but said the new ones are horrible to drive, much as the old ones were - even though they look great.
