No, it was a rather boring idea
In networking you commonly use a tone trace to trace back ports in rooms to ports on the patch panels. I built a patch panel that would light up the port you plugged the tone tracer in rather than having to wave a wand around for ages until it made a noise. Trouble is, someone else had already done it.
