I keep all my important documents in The Pile.
If I still have it, it's in The Pile. I've lost things before from well-meaning people trying to organise The Pile, so I've made sure the flatmate and the girlfriend know that touching it is strictly verboten.

I have a similar system
The important documents go into The Important Box, but I maintain a Pile for those important documents that I intend on putting in The Important Box when I get around to it.
