I remember my takehome monthly pay being les than £500 a month and travel costing about £120 a month. Mind you a pint of lager was about £1.20 and 20 fags were less than £2.

this^£460 a month. I didn't even have to pay any tax until about February of a year and it cost me £40 a month to get to work

Bitter was barely £1 a pint. IN THE WEST END. Used to go to a Wetherspoons in Hammersmith where the cheap shit bitter was 48 pence a pint.
