alright well bit of background
I am a qualified nonce (not really)
Qualified network and security engineer have been for almost 15 years i just teach the shit now.

anyway helping a mate out who has a Swann DVR security camera setup in his shop, about 3 weeks ago he lost the ability to connect to the cameras from both connected to his LAN (within the shop) and remotely using a domain name ending in .net (which resolves to an external IP of 10.74.x.x (internal schema 192.168.x.x)

so i have managed to get the LAN interfaces working so now from iphone and laptop connected within the shop this works.

initially i thought that the IP of the DVR had changed due to DHCP settings on his hub, this seemed feasible, but now i am lost. The hub is a BT home hub 4, i have set up port forwarding, didnt work, configured it to use UPnp, didnt work, disabled the firewall completely, didnt work. The only thing i cannot find is any real NAT settings on the hub anywhere.

In addition the service called Swann that manages the connectivity bnetween DVR and apps for mobile devices and browsers will let you login but tells you the device has not updated.

Initially i assumed that it had to be NAT. but i cannot find the settings anywhere unless i am being fucking hugely dense.

if your peripherals aint talking to a particular connection
walk it back. Start at the peripherals and go through each gateway and see if the message is getting through at each step. That will identify at which point the failure is occurring. then check the logs of the failing device and if that doesn't show anything add more logging.
