it was a charity trek
they were all blinded or amputees or some other life changing injury. the girl said that they called her "captain papercut" because she was "only a single below the knee amp".

i was really impressed at how amazing they all were at the public speaking too
on top of all the physical stuff, they were confident and hilarious, which is hard to do, esp in front of 600 people. it was genuinely inspiring, however cheesy that sounds
