Chuck shuldiner is probably the top of the heap for death/black metal. Did some incredible stuff, inspired most modern heavy metal.
And the guys from bands like emperor and Satyricon, what they did in the early days with tone and just pure noise generation is interesting.
For pure guitar skill I'm with beefo on hendrix being one of the most interesting guitar players ever.
Alt: nah, just a bit shit.
