Ebay has managed to exploit one of the most basic human desires: not having to talk to other people. By removing the requirement of awkward haggling, private transactions are now so much more civilised.

He was a serial conner of old ladies - he'd get tea sets, knick knacks and furniture at ludicrously low prices and sell it on. Once the TV shows started and his potential victims cottoned on he had to pay proper prices.
