Does Garam Masala count as curry powder?

(, Fri 13 Mar 2015, 14:43, 1 reply, 10 years ago)
Well, it's a blend of spices used in curry, what definition of curry powder were you looking for?

(, Fri 13 Mar 2015, 14:45, Reply)
one that just says curry powder on the label. they're all the same ingredients.

(, Fri 13 Mar 2015, 14:45, Reply)
Dunno.
I think of garam masala as a general purpose Indian seasoning, whereas curry powders are a failed attempt to replicate particular styles of dish.

Or what MEATSNAKE said.

I see.

Wrong

Meh.
It's always better to grind spices as and when they're needed, anyway.

don't be stupid, just buy it an a resealable pot, it's exactly the same. it's what the indians do.

You can't make me.
I use a coffee grinder for my spices but, as I mentioned further down the thread, I rarely bother to make the effort for a curry, so tend to use those jars of spice paste. Always grind fresh when I'm making a chilli, though.

how stupid of you, learn to cook properly

It's an absence of opportunity/motivation,
not a lack of ability, thank you very much.
