Windows Defender, or whatever Microsoft have rebranded it as now, is usually sufficient,
unless you actively go looking for trouble.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials), it's more of an anti-virus though
Doesn't get rid of BHO's, but Malwarebytes shifts anything MSE misses. Also worth adding Threatfire as it warns of things trying to install without your knowledge.
