Since folks are in helpful mode
I've just received a mobile phone upgrade. it's charged up and ready to go but...
I'm being prompted to enter a restriction code in order to use it. The default security code in the manual is 12345, and this doesn't work. So I figure the restriction code is something different to the security code, but there's fuck all in the manual about it as far as I can see. I've contacted Nokia, but so far, zilch.
Oddly enough, this only happens with the SIM card in. Take the SIM out, and I'm not being asked for any restriction code.
Any thoughts?

If it's only asking with the SIM in it
contact the phone company, not Nokia. They should be the ones dealing with SIM problems.

Your screwed...
In my experience if an issue sits in the grey area between comapnies no one will help.
Send it back and shout and ask for a newer and shinier phone.

Well
it was a free upgrade, so I haven't lost out. And I've still got my old one.
But it's a bit of an annoyance all the same.
Thing is, it's the same SIM as my old phone, and it was fine in that.
*scratches head*

Aha!
If it's the same SIM as your old phone, you or the supplier may have set a lock a looooong time ago. It's probably in the greeting package you got with the previous phone (assuming that was the one the SIM came with).

I've got a mate who works for them
I'll give him a shout and ask if he knows anything about it. I shall report back.

Common Nokia codes
Sounds stupid, and I'm sure you've tried based on the above:
00000
11111
55555
It might be wanting your PUK code, which you need to contact your provider for. Doesn't sound like a PUK though.

looks like its locked
www.unlocks.co.uk/nokiarestrictioncode.php
quick way to test would be to try someone elses sim who is on a different network

Cheers for the linky
I just called Vodafone who were as much use as tits on a bull. Their advice - take it into a Vodafone shop. Still, I'll do that before resorting paying £17 for a restriction code.
Thankfully the SIM still works in my old phone, so I'll stick to using that for now.
