A quick opinion poll
without adding a poll

Peter Kay has recently been voted Britain's best comedian or somesuch

am I alone on thinking that this is a shocking travesty?

This country is in danger of going the way of America where they give awards to people like Ray Romano...

People like Peter Kay
make me want to cry tears of horror and disgust, not laughter...
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:14, Reply)
Im on your side
But I think that some of the better comedians are less well known or less 'family friendly' as it were.

In essence a popularity contest.
he is good though

Yeah and Lee Evans came second
Lee fucking Evans! The poor man's Norman Wisdom.

Actually most of that list was a bit pants to be honest.

Peter Kay had one good routine that he's been doing since the Royal Variety performance if I remember.
His sitcoms were all right, but mainly contained jokes from his routine.

Mind you, I suppose Richard Pryor only had one good routine.

Peter Kay
Should be tied to Ricky Gervais, Alan Carr, Jim Davidson and a dustbin wagon.

Then dragged around the M25 at 15 mph for seventeen hours.

EDIT: And yeah, string Lee Evans onto it too.

Meh
I used to get pissed off by these lists, then I realised that the majority of people are stupid.

To quote George Carlin 'Just think how stupid the average person is, and realise that half of them are stupider than that'
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:21, Reply)
fuck me
some reasonable responses

I guess the family friendly aspect does it

I listened to Eddy Murphy Raw from sometime in the early 80s the other night

laughed my fucking ass off all the way home. Get hold of it and have a listen.

Kaol: you are completely right, although kudos to Gervais for getting famous for being an enormous annoying cock and people thinking it is comedy.

Scarpe: best quote ever

That may be true, V,
But he's still fuckin' rubbish.

Give me Bill Hicks any day.
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:26, Reply)
damn straight
although I was listening to some Bill Hicks the other day, and I had to turn it off because, and I kid you not, there was a witch in the audience.

Her cackling was driving me insane
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:33, Reply)
Christ
I've just checked out the full list.

There are only two comedians worthy of the name on it.

And Spike Milligan is on the 10 least favourite list.
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:36, Reply)
where's the list?
I can't be arsed to google it myself
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:38, Reply)
List
1. Peter Kay
2. Lee Evans
3. Alan Carr
4. Catherine Tate
5. Dawn French
6. Rowan Atkinson
7. Al Murray
8. Jack Dee
9. Eddie Izzard
10. Frankie Boyle
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:39, Reply)
jesus fucking christ
that's shocking

Frankie Boyle is amusing, and Eddie Izzard used to be at least, but some of those make me turn green, grow big eyebrows and become so large and musclebound that I tear all of my clothes except for a conveniently shorts-like part of my trousers!
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:40, Reply)
Al Murray is shit
EDIT: and Catherine Tate
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:41, Reply)
Catherine Tate must die
there are very few female comedians (comediennes if you will) that are actually funny.

maybe they are funny if you are stupid....
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:44, Reply)
The list
is funnier than the people on it.
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:44, Reply)
Im of the lady persuasion
And I dont think there are any female comedians that can make me laugh whole heartidly.

I think girls can be funny just not when they're doing the whole stand-up thing. Joan Rivers can make me crack a smile sometimes...
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:57, Reply)
i agree with oitp
i'm more for bill bailey, ross noble and dylan moran (though dylan's irish).
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 17:58, Reply)
brix has it spot on, for me at least
Russell Howard cracks me up too.
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 18:09, Reply)
I'm so glad
that someone else thought this was a travesty. Where was Billy Connolly, Dara O'Briain (yeah, he's irish, but he lives in london, does that not count?!), ross noble, Bill Bailey? how the shuddering fuck did catherine bloody tait make it onto a list of anything that's good? and why was victoria wood in the least favourite category?!
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 18:10, Reply)
I actually
really like Michael McIntyre are the moment. I've spelled his name wrong I am sure. Not really my normal taste to be honest, but I can't help but laugh.
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:31, Reply)
Two names
That put all those unfunny fuckers to shame

Dudley Moore and Peter Cook

That is all
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:34, Reply)
