Does anyone know if my bt mobile sim card would work in a blackberry that's on vodafone? I might be getting one next month and I'd rather not fuck about with it if it's not necessary.

for all your mobile device needs. And possibly fish.
Edit: I'm with TGB - probably not. Sims and phones are restricted so you can't use them cross-network, unless you unlock them.

I've had luck recently with sims working in phones from other networks.
it seems to be pretty random, but I think the latest one was a vodafone phone, so you might get lucky

You can get your number transferred easily to a new sim that works on new phones. I did that because I had a BT one that was boardering on 8 years old and had difficulty understanding what a text message was. Unfortunately you cant change network unless you can find a clever man to unlock it for you with his special computer.

then no, you can't use another carrier's SIM in it.
But, most Blackberry's are unlocked (at least here in the US)and just require a sim card swapout.
If it is locked to Vodafone, call them with the IMEI number once you get the device and ask for the unlock code. Takes 2-3 weeks to get it but I'll have a look around and see if I can find a way to do it for you.

I've personally setup an ex Vodafone 8800 on O2 for my mum.
The bigger issue will be getting the BlackBerry PIN number disassociated with Vodafones BIS server.
You'll need to ask the old owner to call Voda to get the PIN unregistered from their system. Last time I had to do this it only took about an hour for the change to take effect.
Afterward you should be able to register the BB with O2s BIS no problem.
The other thing to bear in mind is that currently the BB will be running Vodafone's customised version of the operating system with links to Vodafone Live! And so on. You'll be best off either loading O2s version or the standard RIM edition.
Crackberry.com has some good forums who should be able to answer your questions.
Once you've got it if you have any questions feel free to Gaz me.

and I'm bored with it now. I'm doing some rabbit sitting next month, so would be able to afford the new phone, so no problem with an old owner.

It sounds like your BT sim will be fine.
Good Luck.
