I know very few of you are about this time of night/morning.
But here, have a thread.

I reckon they've got to you with their cordial pleasantries and commendable family values.
Good to see you anyways :)

Happily reading a few books and listening to the radio. Gave notice at my job - huge relief. All happies.

Haven't seen you for a while poppet! How come you gave notice?!
As long as you're happy then it's all good.

well, the situation at work has been untenable for some time. and I have been trying to play the game, but have decided that the stress is no longer worth it. can always temp; and moving out from NYC soon anyway. management has not gotten back to me yet about me leaving; but the cards are all mine. no one knows how the company truly runs excepting myself. they will probably want me to stay on in a consultant capacity, and if not, I will negotiate hefty severance pay.
all in all, life is pretty grand.
how are you, VC?

Or are you overseas now?

Long time no same thread :)
Lusty is indeed overseas... she was in NY last I read.

We get quite enough Bert-ness from Bert.
And it's rather tedious.
So... Yeah, it's quiet and boring today.

We get enough from Bert.
Hi Vampy *hugs*

A water pipe is leaking and dripping above my desk. My old desk, that is. The one I was moved from at the weekend.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:03, Reply)

I wish I was drunk. I'd settle for being in bed instead of work though.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:04, Reply)

I don't believe we've met.
Vampy, not that I'm judging you, but what's the legal drinking age there? Purely out of interest!
EDIT: Chains, that's fucking awesome! Did the desk-goblins do their weekend work then?

Hi User! /huggles
Gotta love the water work gremlins!
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:08, Reply)

The water has trickled halfway across the building before finding a crack to drip through onto my old desk.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:19, Reply)

Would make my work a better place to be. I don't think it would do a lot of good to my mental state though.
In good news I've just booked time off to go see mt girlfriend this weekend. Leaving Friday and not coming back till Tuesday. WooHoo
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:21, Reply)

you just gave me a spectacular mental image light, and now I can't stop laughing.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:22, Reply)

You're right, we haven't met. But I may attend a bash at somepoint. I'm also not able to post here much as I am often away from a PC. Which is a little odd as I am an IT engineer.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:22, Reply)

Those cables won't untangle 'emselves :p
Anyway, in that case, I'm pleased to meet you *shakes hand*
Sounds like an awesome weekend Dok!
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:25, Reply)

and we're going to watch Speedway on Monday.
I'll leave it up to your imagination what we'll be upto the rest of the time, the seaside may be involved at some point.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:30, Reply)

I don't think swimming will be the main objective at the sea side.
Sounds like a brilliant weekend.
:D

will make my workplace better today, indeed. I will have one before I leave.
I have to break the news of my leaving to a dear senior colleague who's been on holiday. This will be a sad talk.

to see someone I care about this weekend. But I cannot.
Oh well. As it is I'm working. :(

It will be ok. But this woman is very special to me, mentor, and a bit of a mother figure. She will understand, though.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:43, Reply)

but this weekend my new amps are arriving, so I'm going to listen to lots of loud music. Woo!
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:49, Reply)

If you met her you'd know just how right you are.
Hope you manage it Kaol, then you'll have an awesome weekend as well!
Cheers Cackers, I see you're coming to the Edinbash, and have finally got round to ditching work.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:50, Reply)

I'm feeling quite happy today. I had a good shout at some evil gits down the end of the phone last night, very therapeutic.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:56, Reply)

Looking forward to getting back to Scotland after too many years. Be seeing you.

It'll be good to see you again, you crazy internet weirdo :p
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:59, Reply)

You've narrowed it down a bit then, there are not too many of us here who need gig amps!
Be seeing you Cackers.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:59, Reply)

But bloody nice ones. Been saving up for quite a while for something that will do my speakers justice...
One of these
One of these
and two of these
Tri amping FTW! :D
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 10:59, Reply)

Fuckin' nice!
I really need to get a decent set-up and such-like.
At the moment I've got an iPod and some passive speakers...
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:02, Reply)

That's some mighty fine equipment.
EDIT I've got an old Music Fidelity pre and power amps, a Nad CD palyer, a Michell Focus One turntable with a Lynn cartridge, and a pair of Keff Koda 3 Speakers.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:06, Reply)

Passive speakers won't run off an iPod :P
I've been building up piece by piece for a few years. Bought some lovely speakers last year (B&W, if you're interested) but have been running them off lesser quality amps than they deserve.
There's a recession on, and I need a new car, but fuck it! I'm slightly embarrassed to admit how much these amps are going to cost me though... although I'm reassuring myself that it's possible to spend a fuck of a lot more.
Edit: that's pretty nice Dok! I've got a Linn Sontek turntable and a Naim CD5 with a Benchmark DAC. The amps (cheapish Rotel power amp and a NAD pre) are definitely the weak link at the moment.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:07, Reply)

I mean the kinda passives that have a headphone jack :p
So... I've proved you wrong? Haha!
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:10, Reply)

I'm personally just happy with my little Ipod dock radio to wake me up in the mornings and my mum's old vinyl/tape/CD stereo to blast my music when nobody else is home.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:10, Reply)

Are earphones not passive!
I know just how much a good setup costs, my brothers, which is far superior to mine cost about £8000 10 years ago.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:12, Reply)

They will definitely be active speakers (i.e. with amps built in) - do they plug into a power socket?
A line source (i.e. the output of your iPod) won't drive passive speakers without some amplification! (edit for Dok: unless they're headphones. Or really weedy speakers)
So no, you're wrong :P
Dok, I'll probably be up to about £15k after these latest purchases, I do spend all my time listening to music though. I'm planning to expand to a 7.1 system built around more of the same amps and speakers, but that's gonna require a fuckload more money...!
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:13, Reply)

It's all about the size though!
The size of the room, and just how good you want the sound quality.
User, hence the fact that you're replacing them with good ones.
My stuff is all packed up at the moment, I've noplace to set it up properly. :(
Yeah getting good stuff does cost, but, as they say, you get what you pay for!
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:15, Reply)

A tiny pair of speakers with a headphone jack.
No battery or power cable.
Needs the iPod turned up loud :p
www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-SRS-P11Q-Passive-Speaker-System/dp/B0009U5XNU
That kinda thing, but about ten years old.
Do I win yet?
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:17, Reply)

So weedy speakers, as I said!
Basically headphone drivers in some plastic boxes.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:18, Reply)

Goodman make an OK iPod dock. doesn't sound too bad and mine only cost about £30 I think.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:21, Reply)

it came with my iPod.
Does the job allright - I'm not particularly fussy as long as it plays the songs I like without skipping.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:23, Reply)

When listening to my iPod I tend to use the Sennheiser earphone I bought years ago for my old stereo.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:26, Reply)

I had my computer rigged up to my PA system and bass amp.
That made for some fucking awesome shooting noises when I was playing games!
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:27, Reply)

Has a sixty CD changer. Although I usually listen to music via my phone headphones or my PC speakers.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:31, Reply)

Got about forty CDs in it at the moment - when it changes CD the noise drives the cat mental.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:48, Reply)

Be careful with the high volume computer gaming!
Edit: @ Dok, the Sennheiser HD25, or maybe HD25SP, although I hate the lead, are my favourite pair of reasonably priced (this is obviously relative) headphones.
I also have AKG K702s, which are bloody nice.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 11:54, Reply)

( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 12:15, Reply)

Had a few problems crossing the border yesterday do to with my work permit so I have to go back to immigration today.
But, I was offered a job hosting/cleaning at a hostel last night.
I said I'd think about it as it's the quiet season at the moment (there's only me and two Dutch guys staying here and they're leaving today which is a shame because one of them is a absolute treat for the eyes). Plus, Niagara looks like Blackpool on speed and makes my brain hurt a little bit.
EDIT: Woo! I now appear to be an international thread killer. Yay me!
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 12:23, Reply)

Threadkilling is an international language.
So Niagra is a fuckin' weird place then?
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 12:34, Reply)

I'm just jealous of you swanning around foreign parts.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 12:34, Reply)

Now, there's just loads of tacky amusements.
I'm half expecting to see an old man sitting in a deck chair wearing socks, sandals and a knotted hanky for a hat and for a seagull to swoop down and steal my ice cream.
( , Tue 24 Mar 2009, 13:00, Reply)

NYC misses you already. Good luck braving the tackiness of Niagara. The falls are nice, but the rest...yeah.
