You love it though :p
I fear I've over-indulged this evening.
Launch night for a bar we re-furbished.
Pre-opening free drinks for me.
Awesome.
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:26, Reply)
Free drinks, over-indulgence? It just needed a Kaol to kick it off.
Meanwhile at work, my old boss has returned. At first, I thought it was some sort of April-fools related Zombie-prank.
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:30, Reply)
To a fellow bearer of the awesomest name :D
How's band stuff going?
EDIT: That's about right, Mr. Spak!
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:31, Reply)
we're in demand, although there have been booking cockups recently, so feels like we haven't played a gig in a while...
playing sunday though.
our latest songs are a few steps above what we were doing before too which is cool.
I've been ill on and off for a couple of weeks. Trying to shake some weird thing. I think the amazing pie I cooked tonight has put it to rest though!
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:36, Reply)
is your old boss coming back a good or bad thing?
Edit: vipros, what type of music do you play?
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:36, Reply)
That can only be a good thing.
*prays for zombie Apocalypse*
Not running ones please :(
Mr. V, I'm glad that band stuff is going well!
More up on your myspace or not?
We've hit a bit of a wall with our recordings, people seem to be busy all the time!
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:40, Reply)
England 1-0 up and I have beer and listening to Sadness Will Prevail by Today is the Day so all is good:D
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:40, Reply)
we're kind of blues-rock I guess. Bit of funk, bit of drum and bass, bit of prog, bit of folk :-)
www.myspace.com/dumberthantheaveragebear
We haven't got any of the new stuff up. 10 tracks are still with the producer, but he's doing it in his own time and for free, so we can't really hurry him!
K: it is a pain when people are busy. Band practice on a Thursday for us is unmissable though, because it's such a laugh. Not recorded for a while though.
I'm planning to get together with my drummer and create some prog rock stuff at some point. I'm thinking about playing some audiobooks through a vocoder in place of a singer :-D
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:44, Reply)
@vipros, that's an awesome idea about the audiobooks. what if you used the mornington crescent bits from ISIHAC (or whichever show they play that on).
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:50, Reply)
that is a good idea
we've got his wife to read the shipping forecast over a tune before, that worked well :-)
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:51, Reply)
I like that too
I'll read erotica in my best Charlotte Green voice if you like :)
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:53, Reply)
we need to find the time to lay down some music first, then we could send it up to you, get you to record some choice bits, send it back, we can vocoder it and assemble
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:55, Reply)
Both male and not-so-male.
My band also haven't had any gigs of late, but that's partly due to two of us being incredibly busy. But we are buying some PA this weekend :D
Are we all well this evening?
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:56, Reply)
Unmissable for us, but my guitarist is being crap, and only coming along to every other.
He's got a new girlfriend.
With a 3-month-old baby.
So he "has to stay in" all the time.
Even though they don't live together :\
EDIT: In the meantime, I'm working on "The Kaol Black Solo Extravaganza".
Bring on the electronica-acoustic-evilness.
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:57, Reply)
My boss coming back is a good thing as he can sort out the mess that he left when I was but still a newbie in the ways of the company. However, it dampens my hopes of becoming the de-jure head of my department. I haven't yet determined if he's a zombie or a human though.
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 20:58, Reply)
mmm, curly wurly
that's lame Kaol, but I look forward to hearing your solo stuff.
if you need some face-melting guitar solos you know where to come ;-)
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 21:00, Reply)
Vipros, that sounds pretty funky. I even forgive you for making me go on myspace.
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 21:01, Reply)
Re vocoder: You could also read out the Z80 data-book for 90% of the song, and unexpectedly switch to some erotica right at the end. For added effect, get the musicians to tune their instruments in the background.
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 21:01, Reply)
You have an incredibly sultry voice so I think you should do it.
And read erotica on Audiobook:D
This song is making me glee:

It's gonna be songs about every-day topic on my world.
Cannibalism.
Necrophilia.
Murder.
I've already written 'em.
But I wanna record 'em multi-part, with me doing all the stuff.
The get some weird sampling going on.
EDIT: For the record, Vipros' band rock live.
Tighter than a kitten's nutsack.
As far as I remember... 4 vodkas for £4 is so very dangerous

I'm not in chains in any way.
In other news, I think my design project report is going to be longer than many dissertations. Crap.
How are you, Tulip and Kaol and Vipros and people?
edits - Multi-track is easy Kaol, that's how I did that cover of Run.

I look forward to hearing it when you've got some down!
this is my drummer's solo stuff

cheers Kaol, we're a bit better now too, that was our first gig pretty much!
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 21:06, Reply)
@Kaol & Pod: Pity about band members being sucked away. But you need to be pretty committed to get any sort of band going.

They do work very well as acoustic though.
They did make me giggle.
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 21:07, Reply)
Er...
I heard that other cover of Run this evening.
It was beyond shite.
Also, I was in Large-Chain-Supermarket last night. IPod on random. Your cover of my Retard Song came on. I was laughing, lots :D

The Retard Song - Kaol (PoD Cover)
Livin' On a Prayer - Bon Jovi

@POD:
I was just saying that if Vipros's band can put on a sterling performance (I've seen them play live) without putting in too much commitment, then you and Kaol don't have to worry about your bands.
(, Wed 1 Apr 2009, 21:25, Reply)
Fair enough 'spakka. I took it the wrong way.
And I saw that Kaol, but don't know how late I'll be about. Meeting earlier on, like lunch, would be good for me. I also don't know where you can park in Edinburgh, and I'll have backpack with me.

That's fair enough actually I suppose. I sometimes try and sing more Scottish, but often don't bother.
You're in for an accent shock when you meet me Kaol.
Also, I need to fix some other covers I have, and they can also be distributed.

Also, please don't eat my brains K.

you sound like a scotsman to me. I just didn't want to say "oh are you from scotland" only to be smacked down or offend you. I can hear it. I have that many english and scots people coming through my work I'm getting to be able to tell the differences a bit more easily.
EDIT: If you can do Summer at Eureka by Pete Murrary or Forever by Jesse Younan I will be thoroughly impressed as they are two of my favourite songs.
