i bought mrs spimf...
one of them there sony readers mainly because it currently comes with 100 classic novels for free

blimey its a bit good - i was very cynical when they claimed the it could be used in direct sunlight... well the sun here in dubai is fairly bright i suppose what with it being over 40 this weekend and all

clear as a bell - if fact as 'er indoors commented - its often difficult to read from proper paper in that light because it reflects the glare so in that respect its better than paper

just saying like

I've always been tempted by one of those
or a Kindle.

Bit bloody expensive though - I'll have to wait a few years til the price becomes more accessible.

I have a Kindle and I love it.
e-readers are the way to go.

How much is the Kindle in the UK, anyway?

@ No3L
granted 230quid is steep compared to a 3 quid paperback - but consider... the reader has fairly good eco credentials..

1. no paper obv

2. 7000 page turns to a charge - and it only uses battery when turning the page

3. more and more publications periodicals and magazines are turning to ePublications - get involved man

4. the kindle is FUCKING UGLY it looks like an eighties fax machine - the eReader is thinner than a an old ladies lips an prettier than a peach in pink panties

4. the kindle will make you look like a prick

no honestly it will - it sounds like a rehabilitation unit for swiss peadophiles

My problem with the sony reader is the fact that it costs the same to buy a book for the e reader then it does to buy the actual book (the type of books I would want for it anyway)

ahem!
gigapedia.com

register before you can download

also if you use a nifty program called calibre to manage your books, you can DL a large range of newspapers every day

I like the idea of an e-reader
But stuff like this puts me off: www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44350&highlight=amazon+banning

Also I lack room for anything other than phone/keys/wallet in my pockets so an e-reader would require me to carry a rucksack with me which means I could carry my netbook instead which is comparable in price but much more useful especially if I ever get around to getting a mobile internet contract.

It also means I could avoid using any of the proprietary file formats that could so easily become as useful as a chocolate teapot as soon as support from the vendor for the format dries up.

Mind you I don't know what formats the sony reader supports.
