My mum's brill
She ran her first marathon on Saturday (and her last, she promises) in 3 hours 52 minutes!

She puts me to shame.

*is very proud*

Jebus!
Well done to her - a lot of effort and I hope she feels great after. Although, it's an awfully fast time for a marathon... are you sure it wasn't a half marathon?

Yep.
It's not a fast marathon, either. It was up in Matlock, and there were onbly about 200 competitors.

An hour after she had finished there were still people coming in... Did I say I was proud?

You did mention it in pass I believe
It's a dman good time. It's great that all the training paid off - I know even when my body was working properly and I could actually run I could never eomplete a marathon, let alone do it in the time she did. Foot rubs for your mother!

That's a good time.
Well done to your mum.

@Hair Pot - A decent runner should be able to do a marathon in under 4 hours. A friend of mine has run them in about 3 and a half.

You could walk a half marathon in 3h 52m.

Fair enough.
I wasn't sure what average time for a runner. It just sounded too fast - but if it isn't, I'll go with that.

Erm
That kind of sustained walking speed is mental. Most people average about two and a half miles an hour - I'm just over three mph and it's hard work.

Accomplished walkers could do a half marathon in that time. Experts in just under three hours.

I've just realised you mean just under 3.5mph
which isn't terribly quick, but I'd still defy anyone who hadn't trained to sustain that pace for that time :)

So as not to ramble too much in that first post
This is the 3rd year she's trained for one; 1st year she had a minor op a couple of months beforehand which went badly wrong, so she missed it. 2nd year she broke her foot in a half marathon 6wks before the main event.

And all this came from a mid-life crisis. My step-dad had an affair - she changed her name, had a boob job and then took up running.

She's brill, my mum.

Excellent work,
Psyches' Mum!

Sometimes I think I should try to train for a half marathon.
But those bottles of red wine keep calling me : (

Well done mum.

The bottles of wine
And tubs of ice-cream. Oh Haagen Dazs, if it wasn't for you I'd be so fit and healthy. I'm not running a marathon - supprting her is the closest I'm going to get!
