in the land of the blind...
I am on a train to London, on my way to invigilate an exam. One of my contact lenses has just fallen out. I am very, very short-sighted (literally - obviously not figuratively so you can skip the tedious humour there). I don't have my glasses or any spare lenses with me as I thought I'd be home this afternoon. This is almost as bad as the one time I lost my glasses when very drunk and couldn't see to find them. Please keep your fingers crossed that I have spare lenses of any strength in work and then the final year students won't be able to cheat right under my nose while I struggle with this one-eyed fucked up depth perception.
(Edit: and now I'm in Swindon and it's raining so it turns out things can get worse.)

Swindon?
Poor you. Just keep one arm aout in front of you at all time in a semi-nazi salute in order to check for walls.

And that's not a chocolate bourbon you're eating...

good luck CHCB
Sorry to hear of your monocularism. Not that it probably helps but its raining in London also, I'm afraid.

crap
though the rain doesn't bother me as much as Swindon does.
(, Tue 26 May 2009, 7:39, Reply)
It gets worse...
You have to go through Didcot next. If there was ever a place worse than Swindon, it's Didcot.

but I like power stations
though I prefer nuclear ones.

Tis not so great
When you have to work next to the bastard thing.

No
There is no place worse than Swindon.

The worst thing is, once you've gone to Swindon at least once, you never really ever leave. It's like bloody Hotel California.

I speak from bitter, bitter experience.

Chin up
Worse things happen at sea, etc etc.

I have been pretty much up since 5am with the cat's incessant demands for food, but I knew she already had some. If I'd got up at the start and walked her over to the bowl I could have gone back to bed for a couple of hours.

I sympathise,
I was up at 5am to get the train. I'm also jetlagged. At 10pm last night I'd been awake for 36hrs straight, 11 of which had been spent squished into an economy class aeroplane seat. Then I went out for the day, the pain started, I nearly fainted, turned out I was very dehydrated (and bizarrely the person who looked after me, helped me out, took me home, and phoned repeatedly to check I was ok was Evil Ex - he'd never have done that while I was his girlfriend - he'd have left me lying on the tarmac while he eyed up women or planes). So yeah, when work is done today I'm going home and doing nothing at all. Other than getting my car back from sometimes-not-so-Evil Ex.

nothing at all myself with a pair of huge sex toys.

Welcome back to blighty and all that.

Did you have a nice time?
I thought the pictures looked very pretty, I was impressed they were only taken with a camera phone.
(, Tue 26 May 2009, 8:14, Reply)
it was great!
The conference was really good, plus I got a presentation case of booze n fancy glasses for doing my talk. The people I met were lovely - they even took me out of the city for a day - and Quebec is very pretty with great food.

P.s. N95 phone, good camera and lens on it, can't believe I intend swapping it for an iPhone.

Sheesh
...kebab. Sounds nasty.

Try not to think about pillows and duvets and soft fluffy cushions and warm cocoa.
(, Tue 26 May 2009, 8:15, Reply)
Oh don't with the cushions and cocoa
I feel your pain CHCB. Altho I have not been sleep deprived I'm in pain with tiredness from having to get up for work this morning.
Good luck with the contact lens and the rain. Swindon is horrible. Too many roundabouts.

First positive - you're getting out of Swindon!

Try 3am and you have my cat.

I walk into things without my glasses
They once fell off my face during a particularly sweaty nightclub session in Portsmouth, during 'Jump Around' by House of Pain. I fell to my knees and scrabbled around on the floor looking for them. They were positively mangled by the time I found them.

Being drunk and short-sighted is not a Good Thing.

Hope you went to Boots
And purchased an eye-patch just in case.
The thoughts of a piratical CHCB is just priceless. Yaaar.
