pirated office software suggestions?
hey folks
can any tech-savvy b3tards tell me if there's any real disadvantage to using a pirated copy of ms-office? going to be buying a new system in a few months and don't particularly feel like forking out $$$ for a few months use.

I used one for a while
forgot it was cracked and used the online help. Within 2 days it shut itself down. Use open office instead, it's free.

hmm
that might be a plan. how good is open office at saving things in ms-word format? looking to send a cv

it's identical
I've used word and excel on there and you can't tell the difference.

we have a winner
that sounds very promising. and free is much better than the 500 bucks or so that microsoft wants for office...

Microsoft can get to fuck
I shelled out £100 for a new copy of word as I'd lost the key for mine when my computer died in the middle of my dissertation.

ouch...
all that money and bill gates still looks like a 12-year-old who lives in his mother's basement...

pdf for CV is all of the win
and M$ can go fuck themselves.

I like the way you used a $ instead of an S

Yes and No
I've got a LaTex'd PDF CV but you'd be surprised how many people email back asking for a Word version. Mind, this is more often recruitment agencies who want to chop off your contact details so the company you're applying to has to go through them.

Nah
Just remember to use google for help instead of online help otherwise it will tend to fold inwards, rapidly.
(, Thu 18 Jun 2009, 22:58, Reply)
Pay for the software if you can
you can put it on loads of computers.
if you can't, use open office

Plus if you're a student
there's always this, which I took advantage of last year. It's the full featured products too, there's no Word Lite or any such nonesense.

I'm not a student,
stop trying to insult me

I'm not a student either.
When I was, however, in 1999, I got the student edition for about £20. I still use it, as does my girlfriend. I believe I was technically supposed to pay for it or give it back when I graduated, but bugger that.
