I'm bored
Obviously, hence b3ta. Anyway, I've been whiling the hours away looking at the Lonely Plant for when I get the balls/funds to up and go backpacking so I can bore the grandkids with stories of the wonderful things I've seen.

So my question is:

What would you like to see in the world before you die?

Baghdad
Seriously.

I grew up on fairytales, 1001 Arabian nights, all that sort of stuff, so I'd love to see the real Baghdad once it's safe to visit there.

And I want to do the Silk Road on horseback one day too.

I've never really read anything about Baghdad
You say "Baghdad" and you just think of wars and terrorism and Terry Waite. I think.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:20, Reply)
Ali Baba lived there
The Thief of Baghdad did too...

It's name has always conjured up images of spice filled markets, romance, intrigue and adventure.

I'm a romantic at heart.

I went to Marrakesh
a couple of years ago and that was pretty much exactly like that, I half expected to see flying carpets and people hiding in those huge wicker baskets. It was awesome though, the way they live is just so different from the UK.

The whole of it
From Orbit or the surface of the Moon.

Nice.

Dammit
I'm so ashamed I won't even edit it as punishment to remind myself of how even the mighty grammar nazis can fall.

And it makes it sound
like I've been staring at a tiny little flower in the garden and being miserable like an emo kid.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:19, Reply)
more mountains

(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:19, Reply)
but at what cost...
AT WHAT COST?!?!?!

*sobbing*

we could get rid of some of the rainforests to make room for them.
They're overrated and contain large spiders.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:24, Reply)
but if you got rid of the rainforests
then the spiders would all move to the mountains

My dream would be
To follow the surf competitions around the world with a stop off in Hawaii for some tattoos.

The thing is is that I hate travelling with a vengeance but want to see the world.
I'm just hoping that someone invents an immediate transportation device before I die.

I'm supposed to be going to New Zealand at some point but just can't pluck up the courage to sort it out.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:43, Reply)
Get a bubble car
and do it Pope style.

New Zealand's pretty civilised, I'd love to go there so I hope you do eventually do it, you'll probably really enjoy it.

Or, in lieu of Al: MTFU
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:49, Reply)
Oh I'll love it when I get there.
It's just getting there.

It's awfully far away.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 14:55, Reply)
you could work up to it
like just go to Devon for now.

Then maybe nip across to France.

Pop over to Germany

etc.

I've only stopped because my geography knowledge has been exhausted.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:25, Reply)
I've actually been as far as Thailand.
Bloody nightmare but glad I went.
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:29, Reply)

Lonely planet is such an awesome site
As is www.spottedbylocals.com/ and wikitravel..

I wouldn't mind a bit of backpacking myself!
(, Mon 29 Jun 2009, 15:07, Reply)
I do sort of regret
not going when I left school, some of my friends who did that have either not come back or have the most amazing memories from it.

But on the up side I did buy a house when I was 18 and so whilst everyone is struggling to get one now I already have one so ha.

Well most of my buddies from Uni
Swanned away to Japan followed by New Zealand and Australia amongst other exotic countries, having many a wonderful adventure.

Meanwhile I went back to my hometown and got a corporate graduate job.
