Grammar query
In a "what grammatical error grates on you" discussion, my mate and I mentioned "could/should/would of" and people saying sat/laid/stood when they mean sitting/lying/standing. He also mentioned "he ought to have done that, didn't he?" which just sounds odd and although I'd never heard it before, I agreed that it would get on your tits.

However, I've just heard revered veteran news journalist John Humphreys say "they ought to have done that, didn't they".

So, is it a crap error made by someone who ought to know better, or is my mate wrong and it is in fact correct English?

wrong
makes no sense.

Shouldn't it be
"they ought to have done that, oughtn't they?"

Although the word oughtn't is a bit clunky.

Lots...
Including: "them" instead of "those", e.g. "pass me them pencils"

"Off-of" instead of "off" e.g. "get off-of that chair"

Not grammar, but I hate the misspelling of "lose" as "loose" - two completely different words!

Somethink or Nothink
Say that in front of me and you may as well be farting in my ear.
