Quick techie help needed
Today I'm going to be reinstalling XP on someone's PC, as they've got a badly pirated one.

I'm going to be replacing it with a genuine one they've bought (don't ask, I don't know why either), so my question is this.

Will I need to remove the old windows first, or can I just install over the top?

If this doesn't apply to you, tell me what your favourite alcoholic drink is? Mine is a heather ale called Fraoch, it's godly!

Cant you just register the cd key?
Save installing it at all.

You can install over the top
Won't lose any settings or anything. It will just ask you for the keycode and install all the new files.

This is assuming you're installing the same version i.e. Home/Pro, SP1/2/3. Not quite sure how the service packs affect it.

it won't once it's registered,
it'll just download all the patches to get it to the latest version.

I hope he's got a fast internet connection.

Didn't know that
My previous experiance is from re-installing it using the same disc I originally installed from when a driver got corrupted and it refused to boot. Thats my new thing learnt for the day!

Agreed!
In fact I was forced into this recently! Marvellous.

Although I did lose some sentimental stuff. Must get me a cheap external HD for backing stuff up!

I would if I could!

Unfortunately there is a ton of stuff on there that isn't backed up, and it needs to be done today!

Try Hobgoblin
And your tipple of choice will have changed
(, Tue 21 Jul 2009, 10:57, Reply)
I might be a bit biased
I've tried Hobgoblin twice. Once it was so cold it hurt my teeth. The other time I was so drunk I couldn't taste it.

You ever tried Lancashire Bomber? That's a lovely one!

Sorry Whisky aficionado's
But I love Jack Daniels and Coke with Ice.

Perhaps a Corona with Lime on a hot summers day.

Also on Saturday I drunk a selection of whiskys which were older than me.
