...let's face it, a generation of British cars from the 1970s/80s were crap, a fact not lost on the public.

I'm not saying the Marina's a good car because it's not. But smashing them up for no reason when there aren't many left is quite cuntish. They are a part of British motoring history whether people like it or not and until we start flattening BNP members with pianos I think we should lay off the Marinas

...there are plenty of Allegros left, not to mention those awful Rootes Group monstrosities that haven't yet died.
Given the choice of seeing a Marina bite the dust or a Lancia Stratos, I know which I'd rather see get crushed by a piano.

...Twin cams and sixteen valves, the BMW 3 series of its day.

cars destroyed for no reason if they are taxed and MOT'd.

Except the Land Rover.
I might be being deliberately contentious here...

...they may have rusted with a fanatical zeal, but they were great to drive.
Actually, the Princess was much maligned too and deserved a better press - if only the strike-happy communists building it had put as much effort into their job as they did striking then the British car industry might not be a historical footnote.

Minis!
Damn just remembered the Triumph GT6 will be gone too... and I guess the Stag is gone too... *has a little cry*

I mean, I liked the original minis, but they can't be excused for spawning the new overpriced monstrosities that are driven solely by people who pop their collars up.

They can stay. Am I reasonable, or what?
( , Wed 29 Jul 2009, 13:36, Reply)

It was described by an incredulous six year old PJM as "shit", a judgement that I stand by to this very day.

Within the unappealing wedgy 70s blandness was a mid-engined two seater with a revvy engine and an entertaining character.
The TR7 was simply a donkey.

any incarnation of them. Especially the clubman.
Still wouldn't get a nice working one and fire it through a caravan though.
And yeah you're soooooooooo reasonable

look at the Herald for example.
But, I liked these things when I was a nipper

I owned a couple of old school minis before the cost of upkeep became prohibitive. (By prohibitive I mean no amount of luck, money or sexual favours to the mechanic would keep it on the road) and they were filled with epic win despite being a bit shit. You might have wet feet where the sills had rusted and the rain was coming in, but you could go round corners faster than the speed of light with your arse less than 18 inches off the floor. Ideally making zooming noises despite being in your 20s.
The new so called minis are not minis in any sense of the word - they're BMWs, often driven by stereotypical BMW drivers. Bah. Cocks, in other words.
Also, now I drive a purple fiesta small children, students and other mini drivers don't wave at me any more :(
