How did you end up doing the job you do?
I became so disillusioned with life as a Jobcentre monkey that I spent every spare hour I had filling in applications for jobs. Some, on the face of it, were a desperate attempt to be doing anything other than trying to persuade people that working for a living was a really good idea… I eventually managed to secure an admin post with a now defunct public body, and that got me a step on the ladder in community regeneration work. I found I enjoyed it, did a degree, and through a convoluted series of events and restructurings ended up here. It’s as far from what I originally studied to do as can be, but I (mostly) love it. Apart from the bureaucracy, which is a bit shit.

Alternatively, if Gordon's / leader of choice's fiscal policies have rendered you with more spare time than you'd like, what time did you get up this morning and what's the best episode of Trisha or Jeremy Kyle you've ever seen?

I suspect a lot of answers to this will contain the word "recession".
Recession.

Got back from travelling after uni
Drifted from shit temp job to shit temp job, and eventually ended up at Fujitsu as an IT monkey. I'm quite happy, in all honesty.

Although on the way I've nearly been homeless twice, along with three cancer scares, and the death of two dogs. Bit of a mixed bag really.

Quite possibly, yes.
Hence my second question. Forum banter, innit?

Erm...started college as pre-law
ended up enforcing court orders. Not much of a leap really unless you consider that my degree is in psychology. Or if you take into account that my job history is essentially:
professional picture framer
freelance artist
prison guard
bail bond agent
collections deputy.

Computers!
I was sick of temping and trying to find work in my degree field after three years, handed my CV to a friend to take into work, had an interview and here I am nearly four years later. I rather enjoy my work.

Refused to move back in with parents after uni
applied for everything I was qualified to do. Got interview, interviewer must have seen the desperation in my eyes, got job.

Funnily enough, I needed an excuse to come to a b3ta-bash.
A year or so ago, I was selfunemployed and living abroad. I was very tempted to go to this bash so in order to have an excuse to visit the UK, I arranged for some job-interviews. Two of them I went to in person, and the third took place over the phone when I returned home. The third one led to a job-offer which seemed juicy so I accepted.

Best decision I made all year. Never looked back. I luv my job!
