As expected...
www.computerweekly.com/Articles/2009/08/06/237215/uk-national-id-card-cloned-in-12-minutes.htm

Does anybody know if there has been a response to this by the government?
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 10:44, 25 replies, latest was 16 years ago)
It says they'll respond later today
I suspect it will be a lot of waffle that comes perilously close to having no actual content whatsoever, but on painstaking examination will prove to actually be addressing an entirely different straw man.
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 10:51, Reply)
Jack Straw?

I predict:
"Blah blah blah previous governments blah blah security blah blah not a waste of money at all blah blah of course Gordon Brown is the right man to be leading the country, even though he has no democratic mandate for power blah blah blah"
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 11:10, Reply)
blah blah no democratic mandate blah blah
blah blah vote for the party not the person blah blah party chooses their leaders independently of the people blah blah.

As much as I dislike Gordy, he has as much right to govern the country as Blair did.
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 14:55, Reply)
you mean none
because he is a useless fucking cretin like blair?
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 15:17, Reply)
sorry
I should have said "democratic right". I didn't mean to imply he was capable.
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 15:58, Reply)
They'll no doubt...
...promise to tighten security, thus hiking the cost of an unnecessary ID Card from a ridiculous amount of money to an even more ridiculous amount of money, while at the same time making it extremely difficult for people NOT to have one.

Stealth tax?

Moreover, they'll sell off all the details on the national database to the highest bidder (this bit is actually provided for in the legislation).

New Labour - Selling everyone out as usual

That crack in itself isn't a problem,
if it's linked to a central database then it should notice if any changes have been made to the card and launch some predator drones to the location of the card.
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 11:22, Reply)
Ooh predator drones.
With x-ray body search and a scratchy cliche robot's voice. "You have twenty seconds to confirm your identity," they'd say, then POWBZZZZTPOW with their extendable cattle-prods. Take that, illegal immigrant!
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 11:29, Reply)
If it's linked to a central database
Why do they need the information on the card at all?
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 11:34, Reply)
what I'm hoping is that they are so completely bumbling and inefficient
that the ID cards won't actually get round to being started until a general election comes around and then the tories will scrap the whole idea.

You're only worried because of your criminal past.

Damn straight
Why do you think my dad got a job as a copper, I needed someone on the inside to re-jig things! :)
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 11:45, Reply)
Don't bet on it....
...the Tories would probably make it cost even more too.
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 11:47, Reply)
fucking government
I'd prefer some kind of completely evil dictatorship to the bunch of cretinous dullards that we have to choose from.
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 11:48, Reply)
By and large people seem too apathetic to care
Even if they promised to scrap it during the election then did a U-turn afterwards.
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 11:51, Reply)
Vote for me...
...I promise to run the country with an iron fist and grow a fearsome moustache to boot.

I'll also have a few civil servants and bankers shot too.
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 12:17, Reply)
got my vote

(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 12:24, Reply)
I already have a beard
and could grow it out Castro style.
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 12:25, Reply)
Can I be the general of your blood-red army?
I promise to massacre anyone who stands in your way or holds some sort of opinion with extreme prejudice.

I'd like some sort of attack helicopter task force. And elite stormtroopers.

All hail Emperor PJM, may he live a thousand years!
(, Fri 7 Aug 2009, 13:05, Reply)
they'll probably kick dogs until they sick rainbows
