It's good for gigs, but shit for a night out. Dead as the grave on non-band nights.
Extremely dirty though :D
EDIT: Also, I picked up Clutch's "Strange Cousins From The West" at the weekend. I'm enjoying it so far, need to "get into it" a bit more though.

I can recommend Blast Tyrant, or From Beale St to Oblivion

Worth grabbing if you're thus inclined.
I need to get the two you mention actually, you're the third person to recommend them to me.

Considering I won't be playing one.

Nah, singing and playing bass. Just being a pedantic sod.
I've broken bass strings before, but it's no easy thing to do.

so really you are wrong with your pedantry

I'm kinda sure that the bass is "descended" from the double bass, so isn't technically a guitar.
Really, really pedantic, sorry :p

it is tuned the same as a guitar (albeit with different number of strings) and is held in a very similar way.
ignoring terminology it is a guitar in a bass range. thus, a bass guitar.

If you leave it out on a kitchen worktop?

A Bass Guitar is a guitar that has been made to play the bass tones by giving it 4 much thicker strings and a longer neck. Its not descended from the double bass.
