It's good to know I'm not alone

*awaits flaming from Beatles' Arselickers*

Nah
Music taste. It's totally personal.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 12:19, Reply)
I'm glad you agree
I've experienced one too many people looking at me like I raped their children when I tell them I don't like the Beatles. Can they not get over the idea that it doesn't appeal to everyone?
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 12:25, Reply)
I mean, I do like them
But I'm not about to unleash the Four Mop-Tops of the Apopalypse.
Just as if you told me you liked Robbie Williams, I wouldn't turn maroon and call you an idiot.
1) I'm more chilled nowadays and think 'each to his own'.
2) I have far too many musical skeletons in my closet.

*pictures opening a wardrobe and finding musical skeletons*
*laughs*

Meh.

Edit:

Worse than disliking the Beatles, I don't like Guitar Hero.

Double edit:

Rock Band, whatever.

Triple edit:

There is nothing else I would like to add.

Would you like to add anything else?

Fixed.

As a guitarist
I feel I should be slightly snobbish about it.

Though Rock Band did encourage Ms Crow to give Soundgarden a second chance, so I suppose I should thank it for that.

There is a funny clip
on youtube of Scott Ian from Anthrax playing Guitar Hero and failing and complaining at how much it fucks up your hand if you're a real guitarist.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 12:30, Reply)
some other famous guitarist had slated it too
saying it was discouraging children from learning real instruments.

I don't give a fuck personally. I don't much like to play it, would rather play the real thing.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 12:49, Reply)
i absolutely loathe
those stupid fucking 'guitar hero' games, and the bullshit, psuedo posturing that goes with them.

Look you fucking idiots, its a big fancy joystick, in the shape of a fucking guitar that allows you to play nothing more than an elaborate game of 'pushing certain buttons at certain times'.

and that is it.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 13:02, Reply)
too true

(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 13:14, Reply)
Musical snobbs like to scoff at popular music.
If you don't like their music then so be it but don't dislike them because they became so popular with everyone else.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 12:41, Reply)
I'm guilty of doing that with Robbie Williams and Oasis
I feel like I'm being told to like them so I begin to despise them, where I used to have a passing fondness for some of their stuff.

I try to be objective, but I do think Oasis could have fucked off after Definitely Maybe and not pissed me off so much.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 12:45, Reply)
agree.
Definitely Maybe was a cool record and everything they've done since has been boring.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 14:28, Reply)
Didn't say that though, did he?
There are people who look down on those of us who don't like the Beatles for having the gall to think that their music was a bit... Well.. Pants. And that's even worse.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 12:56, Reply)
It's intimated in the magazine article.

(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 13:30, Reply)
It is indeed.
And whilst I probably could be described as a bit of a music snob, I should probably clarify my sentiments:

I like a lot of '60s music. I adore the Who, Beach Boys, Doors, Floyd, Kinks, Hendrix, as well as a lot of the Chicago blues recorded around that time. My parents never saw the appeal of the Beatles and so I wasn't bought up with anyone telling me how wonderful they supposedly were.

So when I first heard Sgt Pepper I was entirely nonplussed. Some of it I actively disliked, some of it just left me cold...and this was one of the all-time great albums? Lost on me.

But when I voiced this opinion, as I mentioned above, people seemed, more often than not, to look at me in disgust like I'd just admitted to being the main orchestrator of the Holocaust. Having met such hostility for harbouring such an apparently controversial opinion, it's kind of strengthened my resolve.

So admittedly, part of it is just me being obstinate in defending the opinion I thought I was allowed to have: The Beatles were just a band and I thought, on the whole, they were pretty crap. What annoys me is the vast number of people lining up to stone me to death for not believing the sun shone out of their arseholes. They were just a band: will the general public please get over it.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 14:29, Reply)
Watch Out!
I'm about to admit to being wrong:

I thought you had directed your comment at Crow-Boy. Je suis desole.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 15:45, Reply)
Wings are the band
the Beatles could have been.

TRUFAX!
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 13:10, Reply)
what, shit
and forgettable?
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 13:18, Reply)
No
listenable and worthwhile.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 14:06, Reply)

Alan Patridge quote btw
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 14:06, Reply)
Just read that article a few minutes ago
and enjoyed it muchly!

People banging on about The Beatles being the most important band in the world simply haven't listened to enough music.
