fish sauce
is the business, not instead of soy though, that'd be stupid, but to compliment it. used some last night with chilli, garlic and wafer thin slices of beef skirt

I bought some fish sauce
it smells like a bag-lady's clopper, but when added a Thai chicken soup recipe, it's scrum-diddly-umptious.
