Has anyone travelled on the M1 recently, between junctions 13 and 18?
I was travelling along there saturday evening doing about 80. There were no speed limit signs or camera signs yet before I knew it some white lines flew under me, right before a bridge! Now, on this bridge were two cameras for each lane; both of which look like the traffic monitoring systems.
Does anyone know what those white lines could have been and whether I am correct in my assumptions about the cameras?
Bloody things! No warning at all.

I'll keep it in mind, however - in my defense it was very clear and few cars on the road... it's not like I was changing lanes and pushing my way past people ;)

the speedo and the trip computer in my car don't agree on the speed I drive at.

I wasn't supposed to be working, but ended up helping out on a couple of emergencies as they were a good distraction from revision.

Secondly, unless they had yellow and red stripes on them, they weren't speed cameras, unless they were mobile cameras pointed by police in a van. And the stripes on the road are so cameras or mobile cameras can tell your speed.
That's right, I'm a very dull person.

That's what i thought, and the lines on the road were from the previous variable speed limits i believe.

As long as the sign says "speed cameras ahead" or "speed camerasnext ten miles".
And no, AVERAGE speed cameras can be any colour they like, it's only the Gatzo type that need to be black and yellow. Most of them look just like traffic monitoring cameras.
But as Becky pointed out, and as I will maintain (see my earlier post page18 of QOTW) we all know the speed limit so don't twine if you get points for speeding!
As for the White stripe, you generally find them a quarter or half mile apart so the Feds can do an accurate time check on you.

but I'm totally agreeing with you.

Although I'm sure you always stick to the speed limit when driving.

This is the thing... there were no signs - at all - I'm certain of this.
I understand that average speed cameras *can* be any colour but the standard is to have them bright yellow (as evidenced in the 50mph zones on the M1 further down). I just thought it was strange seeing what seemed to be Traffic Monitoring cameras with the white Gatso lines a little bit further away.

and there WILL be signs somewhere, it's just you haven't noticed them. they could easily be 20 miles down the road.
AND I TOO AM DISGUSTED!
BECKY, AL AND BLAIREAU IN ACCORD SHOCK!
(did you see what i did there? Accord!)
BAN THIS SICK PEER BASED FILTH!

black and blue cameras on the M6 are TrafficMaster cameras, monitoring traffic flow, not speed.
All fixed speed cameras, including the SPECS averaging cameras in roadworks are yellow.
